How group coach hire to the Natural History Museum works
The London Coach Company is a licensed London coach operator. Our drivers run your trip from pickup to return, and we plan every Natural History Museum booking around your group's arrival time and any booked activity.
You get one point of contact, one fixed quote and one booking. Because coaches can only stop for 15 minutes outside the Museum, we time your drop-off and pickup closely, so the group gets off quickly and isn't left waiting on the pavement.
Typical Natural History Museum bookings:
- School day trip. Pickup from school, drop-off at Queen's Gate or Cromwell Road, and a pickup timed to get you back before the end of the school day.
- South Kensington museums day. The Natural History Museum combined with the Science Museum or the V&A next door. No coach move is needed, and the coach collects the group after the second visit.
- London sightseeing day. The Museum as one stop on a wider coach itinerary, for example with the Tower of London, a Thames cruise or a West End matinee.
- Arrival day for residential and overseas groups. Airport, station or hotel transfer straight to the Museum.

Natural History Museum school visit rules (what trip organisers need to know)
The Museum's school rules decide when your group can arrive, how many adults you need and how long you'll need at the entrance, so check them before you book transport.
- School groups must pre-book. The Museum has a strict daily capacity for self-guided school groups. If your date is full, the Museum will suggest alternatives, so book your visit before you confirm the coach.
- All school groups enter via the West Entrance. Show your booking confirmation on arrival.
-

- Foundation Stage
- 1:6
- Key Stage 1
- 1:8
- Key Stage 2
- 1:10
- Key Stage 3
- 1:10
- Key Stage 4
- 1:15
- Post-16 groups
- One adult per booking
- Booked activities need 20 minutes' registration time. Register at Schools Reception on the Lower Ground Floor of the Central Building before your workshop or show.
- Lunch spaces are short, fixed slots. Indoor picnic spaces can be reserved when you book, at a set time between 11:00 and 13:30. Late groups may not be accommodated.
- Cloakroom space is very limited. The Museum recommends bringing as little as possible. Bags can stay on the coach if the driver is returning to the same vehicle for pickup.
What this means for your coach booking: we time your drop-off for at least 20 to 30 minutes before any booked activity, to allow for the walk to the West Entrance, the ticket check and registration. Tell us your lunch slot and activity times, and we'll plan the day around them.
Rules are set by the Natural History Museum and can change. Always confirm your booking details on the Museum's school visits pages.
Coach access, drop-off and waiting
- No coach parking at the Museum. The Museum has no on-site parking, and parking nearby is limited.
- Set-down points: limited coach stopping spaces on Queen's Gate and Cromwell Road, for a maximum of 15 minutes to drop off or collect. Queen's Gate is next to the West Gate, about a 1 to 2 minute walk to the school group entrance. TfL lists these as 20-minute bays, but the Museum asks coaches to stop for no more than 15 minutes, so our drivers work to 15.
- Where the coach waits: after drop-off, the coach moves to a nearby TfL-listed coach park, such as Bayswater Road (Notting Hill Gate), Warwick Road (Earl's Court) or Park Lane, and returns for your agreed pickup time. Any coach park charges are included in your quote.
- No engine idling. Leaving an engine running while stationary is an offence and can be fined by the local council. Our drivers switch off at every stop.
- Busy roads: Cromwell Road is a major route and often congested, especially on school-holiday weekdays. On the day, your driver confirms the pickup point with the group leader by phone.
- Emissions and charges: coaches and buses over 5 tonnes are subject to the London-wide Low Emission Zone (Euro VI standard), not the ULEZ. Minibuses under 5 tonnes are subject to the ULEZ. South Kensington is outside the central London Congestion Charge zone. All vehicles we supply are LEZ and ULEZ compliant.
Public transport, for anyone meeting the group there: South Kensington Underground station (District, Circle and Piccadilly lines) is a short walk away, with a pedestrian subway leading to the Museum's Tunnel Gate.
Accessibility
The Central Entrance, reached through the East Gate on the corner of Cromwell Road and Exhibition Road, is step-free. The West and East Entrances are not step-free but have lifts to the galleries.
Wheelchair-accessible vehicles are available by special request. Please tell us about any wheelchair users or mobility requirements when you request a quote, so we can confirm a suitable vehicle and the best set-down point for your group.
